This is what you missed
At the time I decided to postpone our shoot from August to November, it became apparent that the short notice was going to cause some issues. Jandrie, George and Wendy had already made plans for being in Brisbane over the original dates, and as it turned out a couple of the venues had planned on us all being there at this time to capture some images for them.
It seemed too good an opportunity to pass up. I was able to book some incredible models, MUAs and hair stylists to help pull together a pretty impressive weekend of shooting at four very different venues: Sake, Bavarian Bier Cafe and Georges paragon at Eagle Street Pier, as well as Treasury Hotel.
Just to make it that little bit more fun, Mel gave in to my nagging and came along for the ride as well.
We kicked off at Sake, a Japanese themed restaurant with some impressive decor and a menu to match. Belinda Travers had organised access for us and made sure that a great spread of sample dishes were brought out for us to photograph (along with the models eating it), and photograph we did.
From Sake, we moved out onto the promenade. I didn’t take any images here but I know the others did (after the last 36hrs of running around trying to get things together, I needed a rest).
On day two we started at Treasury, shooting rooms and suites that are as big or bigger than my entire home in Melbourne, before dispersing into various locations around Ryan’s Bar and the main lounge.

I’d have to say I got one of my best shots of the weekend here, and it was largely by accident rather than design. After spending 15mins setting up lights and camera for a few good, but rather standard shots, I repositioned my strobe, and then myself, and got this:

I’m reasonably happy with it.
From Treasury we returned to Eagle Street Pier to shoot firstly at George’s paragon (and sample the best Calamari I’ve EVER eaten).

From there we went to mix it with some drunken yobbos with a chip on their shoulder about not being model material. I’ve had a history of that on shoots where booze is served.
Fortunately, our models were on their game, right up to the very end.

By the time this shoot finished, we were all pretty spent.
Not sure how we’ll stretch ourselves for an extra few days in November, but I’m sure we’ll manage.
I’m sure plenty are kicking themselves for not being here, but hey, it’s not too late. In November we go back to Eagle Street Pier and Treasury Hotel, as well as a bunch of other locations. Get in and register now – tickets are only on sale until October 2nd.
